The Del E. Webb School of Construction at Arizona State University is inviting applications and nominations for a AGC-Arizona Endowed Lecturer position in the field of heavy and highway construction.  This position was created by the leadership of the Associated General Contractors Arizona Chapter and funded through the generosity of over three dozen members who stepped forward with gifts to permanently endow this position.  When the pledges are fulfilled in 2010, this will be the first endowed teaching position ever created at the Del E. Webb School of Construction.  The leadership that this organization displayed has become a model for other academic units at ASU.

The Del E. Webb School of Construction consists of 12 faculty members and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Construction.  Undergraduate concentrations are offered in Residential Construction, Commercial Construction, Heavy and Highway Construction, Specialty Construction, and Concrete Industry Management.  Graduate Areas of Concentration are offered in Construction Management, Construction Science, and Facility Management.  Currently approximately 400 undergraduates and 60 graduate students are enrolled in the school.

ASU is a Research I university widely recognized as one of the most rapidly emerging institutions in the U.S.  Its main campus is located near the heart of metropolitan Phoenix in the City of Tempe.  Phoenix is a cosmopolitan, culturally diverse area of approximately two million people.  The Fulton School of Engineering has 9 academic departments and schools and several research centers and programs.  The enrollment of the college includes approximately 4,790 undergraduates and 1,926 graduate students with over 200 tenured or tenure-track faculty members.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, advise undergraduate and graduate students, mentor student clubs and construction competition teams, perform academic service functions, and participate in seminars and conferences.  This position is designed to support development and teaching of undergraduate curriculum topics related to the heavy and highway construction industry.

A successful candidate should have a master’s degree in Construction or related field and significant accomplishments in the heavy and highway construction industry.  Candidates with a bachelor’s degree and exceptional qualifications such as extensive industry expertise and/or significant teaching experience will be considered for the rank of lecturer.  Applicants should be able to support the School's curriculum collaborations with other academic units such as ASU School of Sustainability, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, or the National Center of Excellence on SMART Innovations for Urban Climate and Energy.

Knowledge and experience in all aspects of heavy and highway construction including construction equipment methods and materials, estimating, scheduling, project management, and project controls is expected.  Experience with environmental aspects of heavy construction is desired.  The successful candidate will act as the primary liaison between the Construction School and the Associated General Contractor – Arizona Chapter with regard to curriculum needs, internship opportunities, and student – industry interaction.  The successful candidate will also be expected to develop close ties with related academic and industry colleagues to develop programs to enhance the heavy and highway construction concentration.
