5th Annaul Construction in Indian Country May 12-14, 2008

Vision

The vision is to establish quality construction through increased competencies for managing construction among American Indian sovereignties. The committee members define construction as a process that includes a range of normal to significant aspects of law, business, engineering, architecture, planning and management. The members envision an effort that will:

  • Promote quality management of construction in tribal communities.
  • Coordinate and maintain the annual Construction in Indian Country Conference, to provide a liaison between tribes, the construction industry and the Del E. Webb School of Construction at Arizona State University.
  • Provide construction management education to tribal, state, and government officials, school and hospital boards, designers and construction managers, continually updating education programs and efforts.
  • Establish an American Indian Construction Management Grant and Endowment, to promote and improve the construction profession by defining the body of knowledge and education for American Indians.
  • Examine, reestablish and share the American Indian construction traditions through study and research, guided by and in total cooperation with Tribal officials.
  • Introduce American Indian children, beginning in the elementary school grades, to the construction industry and encourage them to participate in the well-paying and secure careers represented in construction management.
