Jody Trenter is the president of Earthmovers, Inc., a Phoenix, Arizona, company that leases large machinery and contracts for work with government agencies and private industry. Since its founding in 1986, the company had grown from one bulldozer to 24 pieces of heavy equipment. In February, 1994, Ms. Trenter formed Western Safety Services, Inc., as a subsidiary of Earthmovers. WSSI offers safety program development, OSHA approved training, health and safety audits for OSHA compliance, and job safety analysis and consulting. In 1996, Ms. Trenter created yet a third company, LJ Construction, Inc., which specializes in steel rebar replacement. Although most of the work done by the firms has been centered in Arizona, the companies have worked in various areas of the Southwest.
Ms. Trenter has written, "This industry has always been good to me, and I am a firm believer in giving back...to this industry." In keeping with her belief, she currently serves as president of the 230-member Valley Chapter of the Arizona Contractors Association. Her current offices in the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) include the national chairmanships of the Owners Council and the National Safety and Health Awareness committee. She is a member of the Associated General Contractors, the Arizona Subcontractors Association, the National Association of Women Business Owners, and of Women Construction Owners and Executives. She is affiliated with the Arizona Employers Council and Valley Forward, an association that promotes environmental quality of life interests, and had been appointed to the Governor's Office for Women, a committee on non-traditional employment for women. Through mentorship programs for elementary though college-level students, she teaches and provides information about the construction industry.
She also gives to her community. She is a board member of Silent Witness and of The Bridge, a traditional housing program for the homeless.
Ms. Trenter holds a B.S. in business and marketing from Utah State University.
